The conference room was a battleground. Alexander Vale stood at one end of the sleek mahogany table, the morning sun slicing through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting sharp shadows that matched the tension in the air. Around him, the Vale Industries board members exchanged grim looks, their murmurs swelling into pointed questions.
"Alexander, your public declaration last night was reckless," said Gerald Atwood, chairman of the audit committee, not bothering to lower his voice. "Threatening legal action against the school and media without consulting us—this could cost us critical votes."
Alexander’s jaw tightened but his gaze didn’t waver. "Protecting Vale Industries' reputation means protecting the people connected to it. Elena and her son are part of that now."
