The Contract Clause
The clock on the wall of the private lounge ticked with the rhythmic, unforgiving precision of a guillotine blade. Elena shoved her trembling hands into the pockets of her charcoal blazer, her posture rigid as she stared at the man who held her entire future in the ink of a single contract.
